Saal Digital Gallery Print review by Dean Lowe

From digital to reality

With the world of photography increasingly becoming digital online content you can sometimes not appreciate the event that is a high quality printed product, enter http://www.saal-digital.co.uk/ I had heard a lot of good things about them through industry colleagues and noticed they run a review program, so I had to sign up and give them a try.

The shoot in question was a big production in the peak district, hiking for miles with the crew to the world famous Stanage Edge. I knew this was going to be the shoot I used for the review as the effort to make the shoot happen deserved to be reproduced in print.

I decided to go for the Saal Digital Gallery print

  • direct print on acrylic glass, backed with an Alu-Dibond panel (3mm)
  • six-colour UV direct printing
  • With both Glossy and Matte options
  • Range of hanging systems

I love the look of alu-backed acrylic prints so was excited to get the final print back from Saal, the whole process was seamless. The design and ordering process was very easy using the Saal design software, turn around was very swift taking only a couple of days to produce. A few days later my 20x30 gallery print arrived.

Well packed and supplied with hangers and standoffs to make it a floating print. I love the resulting print, the quality is superb and by far the best print I have ever held, the 3mm Alu-Dibond panel makes for a much more quality product than others I've tried in the past.

The Monochrome print translated well and looks amazing. I have no problems in recommending http://www.saal-digital.co.uk/ and going forward I will be offering their Gallery Print as an option to our clients.

A day in the life. School photography with a difference. by Dean Lowe

As well as offering our usual single and year group School photography, we have started offering our "a day in the life" displays. School pictures are for the most part formal in nature so we decided to start offering our Schools a more natural take for those parents that prefer something more fun. They make for amazing displays and the response from parents, governors and visiting Schools has been fantastic.

Delivered in the form of large format canvas prints, with regular prints available for parents to order from reception. We think the added value of this service not only makes for a more inclusive School photography service but offers our Schools displays that convey the true fun nature of School life.

Here are just a few of the displays our Schools have shared through their social media.

Nottingham Wedding and Event Photo Booth by Dean Lowe

A fun feature for any event

A simple open style booth consisting of a simply backdrop a table and lots of great props, if you're looking for a closed booth with prints this is not for you. However if you're looking to add a bit of fun to your event on a budget read on.

Far from looking like the basic images you get from a traditional photo booth, our open backdrop style resembles more like a studio shoot, being open it invites people to actually take part as they see how much fun everyone else is having. The booth is manned by a professional photographer (Dean or Gemma) making sure the images look so much better and crisper than any traditional booth.

Many of our wedding clients also book out the booth and it's always popular with both children and adults alike, our booth as been to every event you can imagine from the biggest wedding to birthday parties.

Delivery of the images is via dvd or usb usually within 7 days of the event.

Pricing

Booked on top of our all day wedding package the price is £100, booked as a standalone or with other packages the price is £150 for 2 hours. Feel free to contact us  here for more information or to see if we have your date free.

Here's a few our our recent photo booth snaps

Room for the tables and backdrop shown is all the room we need to set up, as you can see it's very popular with guests of all ages, having it open gets more people willing to have a go than some mysterious box in the corner that people vanish into.

Nottingham Portrait Photography on location by Dean Lowe

The Golden Tones of Summer

Shooting indoors can be fun but with the nice weather we're having it's even better to get out and make the most of the lovely golden fields around Nottingham. Wanting to switch it up from our last natural light shoot  we grabbed an 85mm and a 70-200mm lens, a single 300w/s head and some nd filters and headed out.

Below are a few of the images we shot, if you would like to talk to us about a location based shoot please feel free to contact us here

Going Equipped by Dean Lowe

All about redundancy

I tend to carry whatever I can cram into the car on the day, most of the time it's not needed but believe me there have been times I've used all of it. This is just some of our kit as to get all of our stands, flash heads and light modifiers out they simply would not have fitted in the room let alone the image. I go equipped to make sure no matter what happens I will be able to work through and capture the most important day of someones life.

Double Tree Hilton Hotel Wedding Photography Nottingham by Dean Lowe

Rainy day weddings

Martin and Kaffy decided to tie the knot after 16 years together at the Double Tree by Hilton in Nottingham, having never photographed a wedding there we visited the week before, with everything looking good the one thing no wedding planner can control the weather decided to throw us a curve ball.

We will shoot in any weather and any situation, but it's easy for us to say that we get used to it and our cameras and lenses are simply tools so a bit of weather doesn't phase us, but we're not the ones wearing very expensive wedding dresses (well not on the job anyway ;)

Having finished the bulk of the day inside with no let up from the weather, we decided to venture outside embrace the weather and work with what we have, below are some of the images from the day.

Welbeck Hall Wedding Photography NOTTINGHAM by Dean Lowe

After meeting at Trent Lock here in Nottingham years ago and deciding to tie the knot Samantha and Steven  wanted to go back as man and wife to recreate a shot from their first date all those years ago.

After the ceremony at Welbeck Hall registry office we headed over to Trent Lock in the hope that it would not be bustling with activity as it's a lovely canal side location with several pubs on the banks, so as you can imagine on a Saturday in fine weather it can be quite busy.

Here are a few of the images from their day

Breadsall Priory wedding photography NOTTINGHAM-DERBY by Dean Lowe

Those Fun Weddings BreadsalL Priory

Sometimes you can tell instantly whilst consulting with a Bride and Groom that their wedding is going to be very upbeat and fun, this was the case with Liam and Gemma, after discussing with them what they wanted from their photographer on the day the brief was a clear mixture of contemporary mixed with fun.

We don't have a single style, like any service provider we work to a clients brief to deliver exactly what they expect and explain to them what we feel we can realistically deliver. It always helps when a client has booked a great venue such as Breadsall Priory

Call or email us if you would like to discuss the possibility of us Capturing you special day.

The following are a few choice moments from the day...

Studio time. Shooting at The Pit Nottingham by Dean Lowe

It can all get a bit frantic at times, weddings, portrait sessions and Schools. Sometimes it's nice just to shoot without the pressure of payments and deadlines, after getting in invite from some very good photographers I know for a days shoot with some great Models and an MUA at The Pit studio here in Nottingham I just had to pencil it in.

I took along a quick and easy lighting kit consisting of 3x 400w/s ac heads, a 300w/s dc head and battery pack + a few modifiers etc. We spent the day working with a mixture of both natural light and flash. Bellow are a selection of images from the day.

First up was an Urban street dance type look with model:  VelvetteDevine

They had a Dance Pole in a room with great atmosphere so I decided to try a couple of shots against the pole, one a deep black and white, the other something with mood and colour.

Single flash head camera left, really trying to keep the dark look of the room whilst still getting texture on the subject. Model:  VelvetteDevine

Next up was a Pit Studio icon, Chester the old red chair.

The window provided enough light to get the shot I was aiming for with my Models: Luna Mae & Chester the red chair

Keeping with the window theme I moved on to a window shot.
